In Deadpool (2016), a wise-cracking, former mercenary, Wade Wilson, dons a superhero costume to cover his disfigurement. After Wilson is diagnosed with late-stage cancer, he turns to an underworld character named Ajax for a cure. The cure leaves him savagely scarred, but also gives him accelerated healing abilities and superhuman powers. Deadpool then hunts down Ajax intending to force him to fix his disfigurement.
